Alpha Street Kitchen and Bar

20/07/201920/07/2019

Hading down to Rotorua can be a slightly long drive. The looping gentle knolls are truly stunning and there are a few river crossings and lovely sites but I would recommend a stopover in Cambridge.

A little town south of Hamilton with a BIG pride and the home of an absolute find of a restaurant, Alpha 1.

We swung into town not expecting much but eager to find a place for lunch.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a statute older style looking pub. Pub grub crossed my mind and certainly would have filled the bill.

We decided to venture into town a little more. A very clean and colourful town.

A vineyard nearby and of course Alpha 1.

Somehow the parking angels parked us directly infront of this gem.

Walking in we are greeted by the French Maitre D.

A warm fire size welcomes us and a very understated menu. Not overly inspired by the menu. The Maitre d’ fills us on in the oyster special. Well you could have blown us over with a feather.

The oyster dish was a signature dish to celebrate Mauri Week.

We asked him to run over some of the other dishes and by the end of two we are salivating.

We order the oysters, the pulled pork belly and fish and chips.

The parred wines are also winners – esp the Malabec.

The menu is here.

Cafe Vida Canggu Bali

21/10/2017

WOW! Another incredible organic and local produce restaurant in Canggu and definitely worth a visit.

Really impressed with the menu and food.

I had some badass salad called “The Healthy Bowl”

This is what was included: 5 grain mix: millet, buckwheat, quinoa, sorghum, amaranth, sauteed seasonal greens, cheery tomatoes, house made beans, marinated tempeh, red cabbage, roasted pumpkin, broccoli, sweet corn, kale, zucchini, carrot, lettuce greens, served with house made curtido sauerkraut, baba ganoush, beetroot hummus, and garlic tahini and dressing!

Unbelievable!

It was delicious, filling and nutritious.

I did have guests with me though, a few frogs, and a ” big mouse”! (rat)

Poke Poke Canggu

21/08/2017

ā€œ How good is the food?!ā€ my friends chorus as we all meet up for dinner in Canggu.

My mates assure me that Poke Poke, opposite Deus carpark is the bomb when it comes to quick wholesome salads. And they are right!

The Poke Concept is a Hawaaiin way of delivering salads.

Packed with nourishment, often with seaweed, endame, avocado, tuna or salmon, and optional rice or quinoa.

The staff get in and use their hands which I always think is a wonderful way to infuse extra energy and love into the food. The happy smiles as the staff provide this nourishing cup of variety is awesome to watch.

I am happy to say the poke bowl has made it to our house and now a regular meal.

Marinade tuna caps is off magnificently with some mayo and wasabi.

I can highly recommend this place.

Icebergs Bondi Beach

19/06/2017

Bondi Beach is a total iconic Australian land mark.

Even today, a gloomy wet day, the beach is magnificent.

Bondi has a reputation world wide as being that “typical Aussie beach”and it is… although it has soared a bit in hipster and wealth notoriety!

I have been going to Bondi for years and today, just having a few hours in Sydney, decide to treat myself to Icebergs Dining Room and Bar.Ā

The dining area is above the famous swimming pool beneath.. and scopes inspiring views over Bondi. Just enough to draw breathe, feel a part of the scene and receive amazing aerials views of the surfers below.

I am sitting on my own on this day… and the service is wonderful.

I don’t hold back on my selection! Mainly because I have just been interviewed on national TV and feel I deserve a treat. And secondly because I know this restaurant is world famous for it’s hand-selected Australian seafood.

I have the oysters for entree…

Cerviche for second entree….

Market fish is snapper and is delightful!

I can thoroughly recommend the menu, the staff, the views, the food and the restaurant! I will be back.
